Lesson Plan

Sample Lesson Plan

  1. Secure your Backstage Pass.
  2. Ask your class what they know about a certain topic you are getting ready to teach.
    • Chances are, they know little about that topic if you haven’t taught it yet.
  3. Select a Grammarheads video to use in your classroom.
    • First, choose the music genre and topic category.  Backstage Pass members have all options and songs available, including Rock, Country, and Pop versions.  Make sure to check and uncheck boxes to modify your choices while searching.
    • Second, choose the song you’d like to use to teach your class.
  4. Print the Lyrics Sheet for each of your students.
    • Read the song lyrics aloud with your students in whatever way works best for your classroom situation.
    • Have your students highlight words and/or phrases while studying the lyrics.
    • Once your students are familiar with the lyrics, move on to the next step.
  5. Open the video for your selected song and play for your class.
    • Students often sing along on their own, but feel free to encourage them!
    • Make sure your speakers are turned up loud enough for your entire class to hear.
    • Click the ‘full view’ button on the top left of the video to make it full screen.
  6. Ask your class questions about any of the lyrics they read about and heard/watched through the video.
    • Chances are, they know much more than they did before!
  7. Use the “Take the Quiz” option with the entire class to see how much they learned so far.
  8. Download the Quiz if you need a hard copy assessment.
  9. Play the song in the future as much as you’d like, so that your students (and maybe even you) Learn Through Music!
